SIGHTSEEING TOURS IN AMSTERDAM FOR NON-WALKERS

It’s important to realize the historic city center is not really suitable for doing bustours or even minivantours. The historic city center originally was mainly built for transportation of goods by boats. Only since the late 19th century some canals were reclaimed and turned into wide roads. Still there are relatively few wide streets and most scenic spots aren’t along them. Off these couple of main wider roads there is a myriad of canals. Along them are mostly narrow one-way streets which at some places bend considerably as well. This makes bustours virtually impossible.

Besides there are many streets simply not accessible for cars and it’s difficult to find appropriate spots where a minivan doesn’t block the road to stop briefly for sightseeing or to find parking spots near points of interest.

So the mode of transportation for touring around is something to consider. The best way to do sightseeing presumably you are an experienced, healthy rider is touring around on bikes. They are fast, you can park them near most places of interest, you are able to circumvent blocked streets and you become much less tired than by walking considerable distances.

Of course for many of my customers riding bikes isn’t a serious option as they are simply not used to drive one, wouldn’t be comfortable on them or simply lack the physical shape to ride one.

This means in practice most tours in Amsterdam are done by boat or walking, or a combination of those 2. I offer both types of tours plus smart combinations of them. But besides these i offer the opportunity to do sightseeing tours of the historic, scenic city center by rickshaw as well. These rickshaws make it possible to show you most of the highlights of Amsterdam as it comes to sightseeing in just 2 to 3 hours. Another advantage is they are able to pick you up at your hotel or any other location in or around the city center. They are able to drop you off somewhere and pick you up later again as well. So it’s possible to do a part of your tour, being dropped off somewhere and being pick-up later for a second part of your tour or just a ride to a next highlight or back to your hotel, a restaurant or whatever. The rickshaws can access almost everywhere in Amsterdam except for purely pedestrian areas. In many cases they are able to circumvent blockades as well. With nice weather they are open on most sides so you will be able to watch the spectacular architecture and sights very well. In case of bad weather the raincover will be used so you will arrive dry at your next destination anyway. Tours and transfers by rickshaw are a very interesting option for those who are not capable of walking considerable distances!

Tours and transfers by rickshaw can be done with up to 4 guests.
