TOURS OF THE NETHERLANDS
Tours of The Netherlands (Holland); Besides complexes of windmills and blossoming flowerfields there are north of Amsterdam some scenic former villages with wooden houses. For those who are used to and enthousiastic about doing it the Dutch way, it’s possible to do a private biketour passing by some old villages with a lot of centuries old wooden houses like the ones on the pictures underneath. Biking there is much easier than in the center of Amsterdam as traffic is not busy and most of the paths are dedicated bikepaths without cars.
Here underneath a couple of pictures of the wooden houses in the former villages north of Amsterdam:
The Hague, the seat of the Dutch government, parliament and the residence of the Dutch King and Rotterdam, the city with the largest port of Europe can be reached within 1 hour from Amsterdam by train. There is a museum in The Hague with a great collection of some of the most famous paintings by Vermeer. And of course the international Criminal Court and the so-called Peace Palace are located in this city! Rotterdam is a city which lacks a center with centuries old buildings as it was bombed heavily during the Second World War. Visiting its impressive port is interesting though.
Besides these there are 2 hands full of smaller cities with significant historic centers within a 1 hour trainride from Amsterdam. It’s possible to visit 2 or 3 of them in a 1-daytrip. Most of these smaller historic cities are more quiet miniatures of Amsterdam. Here underneath a couple of pictures of monuments in these smaller cities:
Within 1 to 1,5 hours by train from Amsterdam there is a lot of classic Dutch ‘polder’-landscapes, as well as vast dunes, large heatherfields, quite sizable lakes, forests and the ferry to the beautifull island of Texel. I can do tours by minivan to the countryside. For those who are comfortable with driving bikes it’s possible to take bikes with us into the train and do a nice biketour around classic Dutch poldercountryside, the flowerfields in the spring, the island of Texel, the heatherfields in the second half of August, the forests or the lakes. Here a couple of pictures of these sites:
